About Traci
I’m Traci Aylmer, a hairdresser based in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Originally from the U.K., I trained and worked across Manchester, London, Brighton and Sydney before settling in Aotearoa New Zealand over a decade ago. Those years shaped not just my technical approach, but my sense of style which is grounded in individuality, culture and a slightly unconventional edge.
I’ve always been drawn to hair that has personality. Whether that’s a sharp cut, natural texture, or something more expressive with colour. The goal is never to make you look like everyone else, it’s to create something that feels like you.
Experience
I’ve been cutting, colouring and reshaping hair for over four decades.
Over that time, I’ve taught hairdressing, owned salons, and worked in consultation roles—but my favourite place is still behind the chair, working one-on-one with clients.
There’s no formula. Every head of hair is different, and every appointment is approached that way.
Creative Colour + Cut
My work spans everything from lived-in blondes and natural tones through to more expressive colour and placement.
Not all “natural” hair has to look natural.
If you’re after something subtle, we can do that.
If you want something with more character, we can do that too.
The focus is always on creating something intentional, modern, and wearable—something that works with your lifestyle, not against it.
Curly Hair Specialist
Curls have their own language and I’ve been speaking it with them since the late ’90s.
I specialise in dry cutting techniques that work with your natural texture, shaping the hair as it sits rather than forcing it into something it’s not.
Appointments are in-depth and considered, allowing time to understand your curl pattern, routine and what actually works for you day-to-day.
Approach
Alongside the creative side, I’ve developed a long-standing interest in more conscious haircare.
I choose to work with thoughtfully selected, cruelty-free and plant-based products where possible. This balances performance with a more considered approach to what we use on our hair and skin.
For many of my clients, it’s not just about how their hair looks, it’s about making choices that feel aligned with how they live.
Working Together
Clients often come to me because they want something a little different: hair that feels like an extension of who they are, rather than a trend.
Whether you have a clear direction or no idea where to start, we’ll work it out together.
Because great hair doesn’t have to come at the expense of your values or your individuality.
